  • Memories

I will miss all of the fun times and everyone being at the same school as everyone else. I have grown close to many of my friends across grades and classes. Leaving them will hurt as I have very fond memories of many of them. Some are staying here in 7th grade, some are going to other schools, some are moving. No matter what mishap I hope to meet them again and feel unfortunate to have to part. There is a lot i will miss about my school, i’ve grown close to this school and feel misfortuned to have to leave.

    What I look Forward to

I am pretty excited to go to Niceville High School and try some new things. I want to take harder classes because they will help my GPA look good. I am actually looking forward to the new classes and challenges in high school since they can boost my grades and help out with my college applications later on. Also, I play baseball, so I really want to join the Eagles baseball team. I think it will be cool to be on a more structured team that has real coaching. I plan to work super hard at practice, get better at the sport, and help the team win games. High school is going to be a lot different than middle school, but I think I am ready for the new school year to start.

    Summer

Over the summer, I will be on the road very often, driving all the way to Lafayette, Louisiana and Atlanta, Georgia at the furthest. Also, I really look forward to hanging out on the boat, catching big fish offshore, and learning how to wakeboard once the summer baseball season officially ends.

    Flights

There are many things to do in Rome, but there is a certain best time to travel here which is from April-May and September-October, offering a perfect blend of lower prices, fewer crowds, and great weather. However, the cost of going on a round trip in Delta main is around 1700-1800 dollars, and if you fly first class it would cost you anywhere from 10 to 15 thousand dollars, even with the prices being so high the flight is still up to 18 hours long. When you arrive one of the best hotels in the area is The Liberty Boutique Hotel, costing you about $500 dollars a night.

  • Coffee: Magical Bean Water

    The World of Coffee

With roots in Ethiopia and Yemen over 500 years ago, Coffee did not grow in popularity until America made it the dink of choice. This is closely linked to the history of our own country. After the tax from the Tea Act of 1773, America rejected Tea sold by the British East India Trading Company, and went to the cheaper alternative of Coffee. This brought it to the masses, and began its march to global domination.

    Types of Coffee

    Pour Over

The most popular form of coffee in the world is the pour over. It is a process where you pour hot water over coffee in a paper filter. This process is the basis of drip coffee machine. It yields a fast to make cup of decent quality coffee.

a famous coffeemaker that created the drip market is the Mr. Coffee. Have a listen:

    Percolated Coffee

The older brother to the modern day drip coffee machine is the percolator. It has one major downside, of it resteaps the coffee multiple times, causing it to become bitter, it was very uncommon to drink this coffee black. Most people who drank percolated coffee have very litter issue drinking black drip coffee though as it is far less bitter.

    Espresso

Currently the kind of caffeine, Espresso uses pressurized water to put the coffee grinds under pressure. You also have to grind the coffee finer to allow for the extraction process to work faster. This process requires some decently expensive equipment, and therefore in not a process normally done in homes, but budget espresso machines are more widely avaliable.

    Moka Pot

Before the modern high pressure espresso machine, there was still a way to make higher pressure, more caffeinated coffee than drip, it was called the Moka Pot. To use it, you would fill the bottom with water. a cup with coffee, and then screw it together. Placed upon a source of heat, it would force the water through the coffee under steam pressure. When finished, it would make a noise that sounds like the word Moka. This told you it was done.

    The carbon element

Carbon is a chemical element, it’s symbol is C. It is nonmetallic and tetravalent- meaning that its atoms are able to form up to four covalent bonds due to its valence shell exhibiting 4 electrons.

    History

The English name carbon comes from the Latin carbo for coal and charcoal, it also comes from the French charbon, meaning charcoal. • Radiation: Is it really dangerous?

“Unless you are purposely collecting and storing radioactive materials very incorrectly, it’s not
    dangerous.”

Since the 1940’s we have always looked at radiation as the monster that had to be conquered or feared, but is it really as bad as science fiction would have you believe? Let’s explore this concept.

    The Facts

Many people believe that radiation Illnesses are a major factor for dying of cancers, but the facts just don’t back this up.

    IllnessRate
    Skin Cancer60,000-90,000
    Smoking7,000,000 (1.5m from secondhand smoke)
    Acute Radiation Syndrome60-100 SINCE WWII
Per Capita Mortality of different dieseases

    The Truth

Radiation is a calculatable risk. We use certain tools to keep a safe measurement, of this risk, but in most cases, radioactive material the most people can gain access to is not very dangerous. We have lived along side it for thousands of years, and unless you are purposely collecting it and storing it very incorrectly, it’s not dangerous.

  • The Metric System

The Metric System has been adopted by most of the world, but in The United States of America it never really caught on. There are some major measurements that can be made in Metric. The primary sizes are as such.

    • Meter – length
    • gram – mass
      • kilogram
    • Celsius – -temperature
    • candela – luminosity
    • liter – volume

“If God wanted us to use the metric system, he would have given us ten fingers and ten toes.”
